Biology research in Japan
With long-held interests in Japanese and biology, Everett Baxter’19 knew he wanted to study abroad when he came to Beloit, but was uncertain if there were opportunities meeting both of his academic interests. Cost was also a factor in his decision-making.
Luckily, his study abroad advisor knew that research in a biology lab might be possible at a partner university in Japan, and that Everett would be a good candidate for the federally-funded Benjamin Gilman study abroad scholarship. Everett received the scholarship, and while enrolled at Akita International University, assisted Prof. Andy Crofts with his research on RNA localisation in rice seeds.
Post-graduation, Everett will pursue a PhD in biomedical engineering at Michigan State University.
