What is the purpose of the conference?

The Beloit and Beyond Conference is all about showcasing and encouraging student learning experiences beyond the classroom, experiences that enhance their education and help them better prepare for fulfilling careers and lives after Beloit. These experiential learning opportunities include off-campus and international study, career exploration (including on-campus work), internships, volunteering and other forms of community engagement, as well as leadership positions on campus and in the community.

What format may the sessions take?

The conference accommodates a variety of formats for participation—from conference style presentations, to panel discussions, to poster presentations, performances, and more; feel free to share any suggestions you might have in this regard.

Will the sessions be concurrent once again?

Yes, concurrent sessions will run throughout the day. All classes and advising sessions are canceled so that students, faculty, and staff may attend.

What is the role of faculty and staff who nominate/sponsor students?

Nominators encourage nominated students to indicate whether they plan to participate or not and to submit their abstracts as soon as possible (see deadline below), so conference staff have a good sense of who plans to participate and how many rooms need to be reserved and set up.

Nominators are also responsible for reading the abstracts to ensure that they are clear, concise, and coherent. This may entail meeting with the student to make any necessary edits before your approval deadline (see sponsor approval deadline below). These abstracts will appear in the conference program along with your name as the sponsor.

Who will notify students of their nominations?

Conference staff will send an email notifying students of their nominations, but please follow up with them to encourage them to participate and to start working on their abstracts.

Will participation in the conference appear on the students’ transcripts?

Yes, as with the spring symposium, students will receive a transcript notation for participation in the conference.

What are the deadlines for nominations and abstracts and what is the date of the conference?

• Faculty/staff nominations due by: Monday, September 23, 2024.
• Registration and abstract submission due by: Monday, September 30, 2024.
• Sponsor approval of abstract due by: Monday, October 7, 2024.
• Beloit and Beyond Conference: Tuesday, November 5.
