Integrating Library Resources With Moodle
This page contains a set of tools that you can use in your Moodle course to help you and your students find and use library resources.

Add A BelCat search link
Give students easy access to search the Beloit College Library Catalog in your Moodle course.
- Open your Moodle course
- Turn editing on
- Add a resource in the week where you wish the BelCat link to appear
- Choose to Link to a File or Website
- Give the Resource a Name like BelCat Search
- Copy and paste this URL http://lib.beloit.edu/uhtbin/cgisirsi.exe/x/x/0/49/ into the Location field
- Click the Save and Return to Course button
Link to journal articles and E-books
Create a direct link to library resources in your Moodle course.
- Journal articles
- Go to the library database list and locate the journal article you wish to link to
- Copy the URL from your browser. Test the link to make sure the URL will work repeatedly.
- Open your Moodle course
- Turn editing on
- Add a resource in the week where you wish the Journal article link to appear
- Choose to Link to a File or Website
- Give the Resource a Name like the Article title
- Paste the Journal URL into the Location field
- Click the Save and Return to Course button
- E-books
- Go to the library E-books page and locate the e-book you wish to link to
- Copy the URL from your browser
- Open your Moodle course
- Turn editing on
- Add a resource in the week where you wish the E-book link to appear
- Choose to Link to a File or Website
- Give the Resource a Name like the E-book title
- Paste the E-book URL into the Location field
- Click the Save and Return to Course button
Link to Library Research Guides
Integrate research resources for students into your Moodle course.
- Link to Library Research FAQs
- Open your Moodle course
- Turn editing on
- Add a resource in the week where you wish the Library Research link to appear
- Choose to Link to a File or Website
- Give the Resource a Name like Research FAQ
- Copy and paste this URL https://www.beloit.edu/library/research_tips/ into the Location field
- Click the Save and Return to Course button
- Consult with library reference staff about creating a resource and
research guide for your students.
Keep up with ISR/Library News
Add the ISR RSS Feed to keep up to date with the latest ISR/Library news.
- Open your Moodle course
- Turn editing on
- Use the Blocks drop down menu to add a Remote RSS Feed block
- In the newly created block, click the link to Click here to configure this block to display RSS feeds
- On the next screen, check the box for Beloit College ISR
- Give your RSS feed a title like ISR News
- Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the screen
Embed a Chat with a Librarian widget on your Course page
Enable real time chatting with a reference librarian in your Moodle course.
- Open your Moodle course
- Turn editing on
- Use the Add Blocks drop down menu to add an HTML block
- Click the Edit icon
on the new HTML block
- When the Blocks editor opens, enter a Block Title like Chat with a Librarian
- Click the Toggle HTML Source icon
- Copy and paste this text into the block:

- Click the Save Changes button
- A "widget" will be embedded in your course that will allow you to chat with bclibref (if they are online)
Collaborate with a Librarian
Add a librarian liaison to your course. The library liaison will not see grades in a course, but will be able to add resources and activities, post forum messages, etc.
- Open your Moodle course
- Click the Assign Roles link in the Administration block of your course
- Click the Librarian link
- Search for the librarian you'd like to add on the right hand side
- Highlight their name and click the Add button to move them to the left hand side
- Your course will show up for the librarian in the "My Courses" section when they log into Moodle
