Provost and Dean of the College

Beloit College, one of the nation’s leading liberal arts colleges, invites nominations and applications for the newly conceived position of Provost and Dean of the College. The College takes great pride in being among the first institutions in the United States to recognize the enormous value of internationalizing both the curriculum and the campus. Furthermore, Beloit was a pioneer in making experiential opportunities a central part of every student’s education. In order to build on a holistic approach to student learning that breaks down barriers and fundamentally blurs distinctions between academic and student affairs, Beloit College is adopting a leadership structure that integrates all operations related to student life and the academic program under the leadership of the Provost and Dean of the College.

Overseeing a broad portfolio (Academic Departments and Programs; Equity and Community; Residential Living and Learning; Information Services and Resources; Athletics; Center for Entrepreneurship; Museums; Institutional Research, Assessment and Planning; Registrar), the Provost and Dean of the College will play a key leadership role at an institution that is committed to the development and success of its students. Working closely with the President, members of Senior Staff, and faculty and staff colleagues in academic and student affairs, the Provost and Dean of the College will join a passionate and creative campus community at a pivotal point in the College’s evolution.

Qualifications

The new Provost and Dean of the College will possess a record of progressively responsible leadership in an academic setting.  The successful candidate must have experience creating and supporting high-quality, holistic, student-centered curricular and co-curricular programs that meet the needs of a diverse student population. They must have a commitment to advancing the college's aspiration to be an anti-racist institution.  They should have a sophisticated understanding of how to make decisions regarding the strategic use of resources to best achieve the college’s mission over time at both the divisional and college-wide levels. An earned doctorate and demonstrated significant accomplishment in teaching, scholarship and service commensurate with tenure is required.

The City of Beloit

The vibrant and diverse city of Beloit is home to 37,000 residents as well as more than 88 industrial firms, 850 retail establishments, and several corporate headquarters (Kerry Americas, ABC Supply/Hendricks Holdings, and Regal, among others). The City of Beloit is increasingly recognized as an exemplar of Midwestern entrepreneurial development and is an important part of many  Beloit College students’ lives as a site for internships, volunteering, and community engagement. In addition to the college’s Wright Museum of Art and the internationally acclaimed Logan Museum of Anthropology, Beloit is home to a downtown Fine Arts Center, numerous historic homesteads and mills, an expansive park system, and signature programs and events, including the Beloit International Film Festival and the Beloit-Janesville Symphony Orchestra. Beloit is an easy drive to the cities of Madison (50 miles), Milwaukee (70 miles), and Chicago (90 miles).
