Beloit dancers awarded two prizes at international festival in Prague!
Eight Beloit dancers (Claire Alrich’13, Nora Anderson’13, Alissa Chen’14, Sarah Miller’15, Matthew Alan Porter’12, Amelia Tarpey’14, Lily Watkins’12, and Marilu Wiesner’14) and Professor of Dance, Chris Johnson traveled to Prague, Cz in July 2013 to participate in the week-long New Prague Dance Festival competition. The international festival was attended by dancers from all over the world including South Africa, Great Britain, Belgium, Brazil, India, Taiwan, and others from the USA, just to name a few.
Under the direction of Professor Johnson they were awarded the top prize for choreography, competing with everyone in the whole festival. They were also awarded 2nd place for contemporary dance.
The dancers performed in three concerts, presenting three works: Between the Lines and Holding Patterns, both choreographed by Johnson and Holding Patterns, choreographed by alumni Matthew Alan Porter’12 and Vivian Chen’12.
In addition to performances, the dancers participated in rehearsals, daily classes and workshops with internationally renowned dance masters.
Also, making connections with Beloit dance’s past work inspired by the Holocaust, the group was able to visit the Terezin Concentration Camp Memorial and Museum.
