ACDFA stands for the American College Dance Festival Association. Each spring Beloit College sends a group of about 30 students to the regional festival. All students interested in attending may go. At the four-day festival students and faculty are able to take classes in all areas of dance and dance related subjects. Additionally, each school that attends may present up to two dances for adjudication by world renowned dance professionals. These adjudicators select the very best pieces to give encore performances in the gala concert at the end of the festival. Beloit College dances have been in the gala concert regularly since 2001.
ACDFA GALA SELECTIONS!
Faux Fur, choreographed by Assistant Professor of Dance Gina T'ai was selected to be performed in the Gala Concert at the American College Dance Association's North Central Conference AND it was selected as the first alternate for the National Festival to be held at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. The dance was performed by Maddie Barron'17, Gabby Garcia'19, Sarah Ellen Miller'15, and Charlie Vail'18.
Here is what the adjudicators wrote about Faux Fur:
"A work with a soul and sense of importance, Faux Fur is devastatingly truthful, conceptually grounded and smartly crafted. The dancers internalize the objectification of the female body, delivering a biting commentary on the compulsory sexualization of women." This year's conference was held at UW Stevens Point.
