Liam had always looked for opportunities to gain new insights. Now, even seemingly mundane activities (walking down a street!) were teaching him to relearn how to live. Soon, small networks of peers helped him get his bearings in both an unfamiliar academic and a country in which even basic aspects of daily life were new. Those networks grew in importance when the COVID-19 pandemic reached New Zealand, and Liam chose to remain rather than return to the U.S. As health safety measures led to lockdown, network members shifted from sharing tips on navigating New Zealand daily life to helping each other understand government pandemic measures and requirements. As the lockdown lifted, Liam took advantage of the greater freedom of movement to explore New Zealand using the lenses of his anthropology and classics studies. Work in a New Zealand museum may now be in his future. Congratulations, Liam!” - Elizabeth Brewer
