In her first semester at Beloit, she impressed me with her skills as a historian, which have only grown further since. She has excelled especially in bringing global perspectives to the study of history, with a focus on the European colonial empires. Her interest in exploring cultures beyond the U.S. has led her to develop excellent French language skills, to study abroad in Lille, France, and to declare a French minor in addition to her history major. As a research assistant working with me on a study of the history of anti-colonial humor in the French empire, she discovered and compiled a large number of fascinating cartoons from French-language newspapers, and in one of her capstone history classes she used original French-language sources to write an outstanding final paper on the history of food in North Africa under French rule. Throughout her time at Beloit, she has impressed all of us with her kindness, humor, intelligence and curiosity.” - Daniel Brueckenhaus
