He cares about the role of farming on its surrounding ecosystem, as well as its role as an anchor in the economy and culture of rural communities. Mizuki has identified important incentives available to young people who want to take up farming. The hard labor of farming is not unknown to him, thanks to a combination of internships with farmers in Wisconsin and Japan. Mizuki is on his way to becoming our next “farmer John.”“

“Mizuki not only studies and thinks about sustainability and the role of agriculture within sustainability, but engages in extensive and sustained field study to better understand the challenges to producing food sustainability. As a junior and as a senior, Mizuki spent long days at Froggy Meadow Farm, no matter the weather, to help plant and harvest. This taught him a great deal about both the business and the practice of small scale, organic agriculture in the American Midwest. Because his future career will likely take place in Japan, Mizuki also volunteered on organic farms in Japan. Mizuki is a steady worker with an inquisitive mind and a quiet sense of humor. Neither rain nor drought, cold nor heat, deter him.”
