One week from today: #looksmart with Advising Practicum 2013

October 22, 2013 at 6:22 pm

You’ve got exactly one week until it’s time to look smart. Next Wednesday--Oct. 30--Beloit will host Advising Practicum 2013, a day dedicated to taking a close look at your academic and educational path.

Graduate School: What to Do When, Why your major doesn’t−and does−matter, Condoms, Bookmarks, and Gourds: How to Get Hands-On in the Beloit Community and Making the Most of Your Summer are just a few of the topics on the docket.

The day begins with first-year students participating in special advising sessions with their FYI seminar leaders and classmates, followed by concurrent workshops open to all students on topics ranging from “No Job is a Bad Job,” “Communicating the Value of your Liberal Arts Education to Employers,” and “Money Matters.” Sessions are led by professors, staff, and other students and alumni in panel-discussions, who can provide insight on their own paths.

The last half of the day is devoted to departmental sessions, which give students the opportunity to receive in-depth advising about specific programs and majors; many departments will also be hosting lunches.

Read more about Beloit’s efforts on academic advising here, and follow the conversation on Oct. 30 at #looksmart and #beadvised. Keep your eyes peeled this weekend and next week for our traveling Polaroid frames--if you tag a picture and upload it with the #looksmart or #beadvised hashtags, you’ll be eligible to win some Beloit winter gear in a random drawing.
