Each of the nine students is enrolled in Donna’s “Moscow-in-Transition” course, for which they are conducting independent study projects, including an exploration of abandoned places, smoking culture, the Russian adoption and orphanage system, impacts of the gay propaganda law, folk medicine, Central Asian migrants in Moscow, literary museums, alternative Christianity, and World War II memorials.

While in Russia, Betsy, Donna, and Pablo accompanied the students to Saint Petersburg to develop comparative perspectives on two major cities. The visit to Russia included individual advising sessions with students, group discussions, and a dinner with Beloit College alumni (pictured below).
