Second Annual Giving Day a Great Success

The Beloit College community is generous and showed its heart and soul during its second annual Giving Day on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. In just 24 hours, the college raised over $65,000 from more than 450 supporters.

Not only did the gifts far surpass the original goal of $25,000, the event also raised $25,000 more than last year. Beloit is touched by the fantastic response received from supporters and is grateful to be backed by such a strong foundation of alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends. These gifts help make ‪#‎BeloitPossible for the next generation of Turtles, Bucs, and Beloiters.

The unconditional support, enthusiastically offered by our alumni, parents, and friends is a tribute to the character of our community, and the value that we all collectively recognize in the mission we seek to advance. We at Beloit are privileged to have a community so willing to invest in the future of our great institution, and our students. For this, we are grateful,” said Mark Wold’95, Senior Director of Alumni & Parent Relations and Annual Support.

Thank you to all who supported Beloit College’s second annual Giving Day. As College President Scott Bierman often says, it’s “turtles all the way down.”

Meet Assistant Director of Admissions Pat Walsh

July 22, 2013 at 12:19 am

Pat Walsh 2

Name: Pat Walsh

Occupation: Assistant director of admissions.

Hometown: Madison, Wis.

What brought me to Beloit: The Beloit College experience.

You may have seen me: At Middle College.

What’s on your desert island jukebox? Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes, Joshua Radin, Sara Bareilles, and Sufjan Stevens.

What’s on your bucket list? Attending the Newport Folk Fest every year. The three-day Folk Fest takes place in an abandoned Civil War naval fort in Newport, Rhode Island. The folk festival usually has about 40 musical performances; the best part about it is the people who put it on usually pick performers who are just on the cusp of hitting it big.  Of Mice & Men, The Civil Wars, Head & the Heart, Avett Brothers, and Lone Bellow all performed here before they became nationally known.  My wife and I plan to attend every year until we kick the bucket.

Any do-over requests to lodge with the universe? Explain. At age 8 my mom tried to get me to learn to play the piano but younger me wouldn't have it.  Now that I'm an adult who absolutely adores music I really wish I could not only listen and appreciate music but write it, make it, and play it.  If I had my way I wish the universe would have slapped me upside the head, told me to get out of my comfort zone and play that darn piano.

Favorite meal? Filet mignon with a mushroom demi glace, mashed potatoes, and grilled asparagus.  Yum.

What can’t you live without? My best friend.

Any advice? Seize the college experience. College is really the only moment in life where you have so many awe-inspiring,  life-changing opportunities. The cool thing about Beloit College in particular is that almost all of these incredible opportunities are easy accessible. For whatever reason students sometimes choose not to follow their passion and just hang back. My  advice to students is from Convocation to Commencement to step well outside of your comfort zone and be busy... really busy in the college experience. I have never heard a college graduate say 'that I was too involved" or "had too many experiences."

Who are your top-three fantasy dinner party guests? George R. R. Martin, Brian K. Vaughan, and Al Roker.

What gets you up in the morning? Our beagle Annabelle.  Her morning starts at 5:30 a.m. each day.

What’s your favorite hidden gem here in the area? Bushel & Peck’s Thursday Night Trivia.  Imagine one of the most challenging trivia contests and that you're competing against some incredibly smart Beloit faculty, staff, and students. The folks at Bushel & Peck’s spend about four hours a week determining the trivia questions for a packed house of trivia enthusiasts.  There is no sweeter victory than answering a trivia question right about modern international corporations.

Proudest moment? My best friend and I deciding to take the road less traveled and eloping.

What are you most looking forward to? Pretty excited about the year ahead in admissions. Beloit College is one of those rare caring communities where everyone takes their work seriously without taking themselves too seriously.
