Trustees meeting recap: approving nominees, promotions

May 1, 2013

The college’s board of trustees were on campus last weekend and stayed very busy. Among their work: approving the nominees for graduation and emeriti status, approving promotions for four faculty members, blessing the 2013-14 budget, and re-electing four of their own.

In between attending performances and the Beloit Relays, trustees conducted the usual business of  getting updates on the college’s recruitment and branding efforts, had a large-scale discussion of the new Liberal Arts in Practice fundraising module, examined the college’s risk management plans, and tackled many other topics. Here is a quick rundown of the news coming out of this spring’s meeting:

Seniors, you may go now:

The board, as it must, granted permission for the senior class to be conferred degrees. Likewise, the board must, and did, approve proposals for granting emeriti status to retiring professors Jerry Gustafson and Brock Spencer, and outgoing Vice President for Administration and Treasurer John Nicholas.

Four new full professors:

Four members of the faculty had their promotions to full professor approved by the board. Those promoted were: Darrah Chavey, Natalie Gummer, Cynthia McCown, and Sue Swanson.

Re-elected for three-year terms:

Four trustees were also re-elected to three-year terms on the board: Joanna Kutter’95, Steve Mahle’67, Jim Packard, and Nina Weissberg’84.
