Meet Hay Fever director David Marcia

April 24, 2013

Marcia 1

Name: David Marcia

Occupation: Teacher, theatre director, playwright.

Hometown: Springfield, Ohio.

What brought me to Beloit: Teaching at Beloit College.

You may have seen me: At the theatre or trying to open my campus mailbox.

What are you working on? Currently directing the BC production of Hay Fever in the Neese theatre; next semester I’m directing the premier of my own play Coward Land in the Kresge theatre. (I also teach Selling the Arts and Acting Two this semester.) My most recent play What Breaks Your Heart? was a semi-finalist at the National Playwrights Conference, Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. I’m also revising my article “Performing Marriage in Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf?” for publication in the journal Text and Presentation 2013. Basically, I write a lot and I should read more.

What’s on your desert island jukebox? Lots of Elvis Costello.

What’s on your bucket list? A warm sunny week in Beloit.

Any advice? Come and see Hay Fever, it’s funny, sexy, salacious, less than two hours long and $4, such a deal!

What gets you up in the morning? Good coffee and a fork-lift.

Who are your heroes? My girlfriend Nancy, my mom, Shakespeare, and the Dali Lama.
