Meet a few of our Class of '22

June 26, 2018

Corbin Odom

Corbin Odom'22

Corbin Odom is from Kansas City, Missouri and plans on studying biology and playing lacrosse at Beloit. Corbin’s interest in biology stems from research on “The Effects of Supplemental Phosphate on Flowering in Brassica rapa” in honors botany at Longview Community College, where he attended as a dual enrolled high school student for three years.

During his senior year, he served as Kappa Tau chapter president of the national honor society Phi Theta Kappa at Longview. During his presidency, Corbin’s chapter took over a campus food pantry and started increasing awareness of the pantry on campus. As a result of his chapter’s efforts students using the pantry increased from one or two students to around 20 students daily.  Corbin also started playing lacrosse his sophomore year and helped his team to the Lacrosse Association of Kansas City playoffs during his senior year. Corbin is excited to attend Beloit this fall and can’t wait to play as a Buccaneer.

Gabija Laskonyte

Gabija Laskonyte'22

I enjoy hiking, volunteering, listening to podcasts, petting animals, and spending time with my friends. In high school, I was a member of the National Honor Society, an FRC robotics team, the Red Cross club, and I frequently volunteered.

I also did the full IB diploma program and enjoyed writing my extended essay on the question “are facial expressions universally recognized?”.

After Beloit, I hope to go to medical school and become an infectious diseases specialist. I would one day like to use my medical expertise and volunteer in Southern America. I have been learning Spanish for the last six years and I studied abroad in Madrid last summer. I’m excited to major in molecular biology this fall at Beloit.

Maggie Baugh

Maggie Baugh'22

Maggie Baugh is incredibly excited to attend Beloit this fall. In high school, Maggie ran cross country and track. She also was on the speech and debate team, where she regularly competed in Informative Speaking and Original Oratory. Her junior year, Maggie qualified to nationals with a speech about asexuality, and her senior year, she got third in districts with a speech about time travel. In her senior year, Maggie also completed a research project, which culminated in a collection of materials for a history course on LGBTQ+ history. At Beloit, Maggie is excited to continue studying the many subjects she is interested in and to continue running.

Sy Dragon

Sy Dragon

My name is Sy Dragon. I plan to study international relations and language to enable me to connect with people from different backgrounds. I spent the last eight months in India with in the Global Citizen Year program. My time immersed in a country so far from my own inspired me to learn more about cultures and people different from those which I have known. I am also an athlete and love being part of a team. I played three sports in high school and plan to be on the lacrosse team at Beloit. I am passionate about learning and exploring the unknown and misunderstood, especially in the context of a liberal arts school. So excited to start at Beloit in the fall.
