Mingyi Zhang'18, a political science major, recently presented her paper,"Choosing the Working Partners: Preconditions and Outcomes of Coalition Building Under MMP Electoral System," at the Illinois State University Conference for Students of Political Science. Her paper was awarded the Pi Sigma Alpha Best Paper Award, which celebrates outstanding undergraduate papers.

"This award is definitely one of the most important achievements for my academic studies at Beloit. Having the chance to be recognized in an undergraduate conference further boosts my confidence to conduct research in the field of comparative politics. I am excited for more advanced quantitative oriented political science studies in graduate school," says Mingyi.

She credits the mentorship of her project advisors, political science professors John Rapp and Phil Chen, for her success.

"Without their push throughout the semester, I wouldn't have been able to get to where I am today," she says.
