It was a cloudy, damp, brisk weekend, but Beloiters didn’t let a little weather stand in their way of a great time. Over 400 family members, friends, and alumni visited campus for this year’s Beloiter Days.

The weekend kicked off Friday with campus and museum tours, receptions, Greek activities, a packed presentation of our Field Experience Grant program, a Tau Kappa Epsilon Centennial reunion, the Homecoming Parade, and s’mores on Pearsons Quad.

Friday also featured the Upton Residency luncheon, panel discussion, and the Forum Keynote on the economic costs of climate change by the University of Chicago’s Michael Greenstone, Milton Friedman Professor of Economics. The Upton events were fascinating, powerful, and engaging.

This year’s parade entry grand champion was International Club. Black Students United won for best club, Theta Pi Gamma for Greeks, and women’s softball took the win for sports. Bill Knapton, a revered basketball coach from 1957-1997, led the procession as the 2017 Grand Marshal. Bill’s career at Beloit also included service as athletic director, golf and baseball coach, and assistant in other sports.

Saturday evening’s activities included an inspiring Athletic Hall of Honor ceremony celebrating this year’s inductees: Katie Algrem Feldner’07, Shellie Gazdik’04, Michael Flanagan’03, and Evan McCleod’99. Evan captured the shared sentiments of his fellow inductees and their Beloit College experiences when he said, “I would encourage everyone to find something about which they are passionate commit yourself on a daily basis, and take joy in the small gains as they happen. As those pile up you’ll see the big picture changes as well, and know that it’s worth it. I learned this lesson here, with the help of people in this room, and I’m very grateful.”

It was a great weekend to be a Beloiter. The Development and Alumni Relations Office would like to thank all the campus departments and offices that helped plan and execute this joyful event.
