Meet: Lauren Herbert’17, silent film admirer and an authority on the BIFF music scene

February 17, 2014

Meet Lauren Herbert

Name: Lauren Herbert’17
Santa Rosa, Calif.

What brought me to Beloit: I loved the way that Beloit made a special effort to make a personal connection with its applicants, and I knew I wanted to go to a school that cared about its students.

My favorite class so far, and why you should take it: I love my Intro to Philosophy class with Heath Massey. It is teaching me how to be a critical thinker and reader and how to be comfortable thinking deep thoughts.

You may have seen me: At the Liberal Arts in Practice Center

How I got involved with the Beloit International Film Festival: I first learned of the Beloit International Film Festival from the awesome weekly updates that the LAPC puts out each week.

What the experience has taught me: This experience has taught me how to think on my feet and more importantly how to communicate and stay organized in the face of some very stressful situations.

The BIFF movie/event you shouldn't miss: The Silent Showcase. If you are an admirer of film like I am, you cannot miss these classic Charlie Chaplin silent films that are accompanied by the Janesville Orchestra performing live. It is going to be an amazing event!

What are you working on? I am the assistant director of BIFF + Music, so right now I am communicating with the bands that will play at the festival to make sure we have everything they need for their performance.

Who are your top three dinner party guests? In no particular order:

1. F. Scott Fitzgerald

2. William Shakespeare

3. Lisel Mueller

What can’t you live without? I cannot live without my books and movies.

What’s your karaoke standard? That's easy. “Firework” by Katy Perry.
