Second Annual Giving Day a Great Success

The Beloit College community is generous and showed its heart and soul during its second annual Giving Day on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. In just 24 hours, the college raised over $65,000 from more than 450 supporters.

Not only did the gifts far surpass the original goal of $25,000, the event also raised $25,000 more than last year. Beloit is touched by the fantastic response received from supporters and is grateful to be backed by such a strong foundation of alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends. These gifts help make ‪#‎BeloitPossible for the next generation of Turtles, Bucs, and Beloiters.

The unconditional support, enthusiastically offered by our alumni, parents, and friends is a tribute to the character of our community, and the value that we all collectively recognize in the mission we seek to advance. We at Beloit are privileged to have a community so willing to invest in the future of our great institution, and our students. For this, we are grateful,” said Mark Wold’95, Senior Director of Alumni & Parent Relations and Annual Support.

Thank you to all who supported Beloit College’s second annual Giving Day. As College President Scott Bierman often says, it’s “turtles all the way down.”

February 7, 2014 at 8:00 am

Marilyn Medina 1

Name: Marilyn Medina

Hometown: Chicago, Ill.

Major/minor: Health and Society

What brought me to Beloit: My step mom, who played a huge part in helping me get to college, is a Beloit alumna.

My favorite class so far, and why you should take it: Comparative Health Systems with Ron Nikora. I’m fascinated by the many different health systems countries have; it was such an eye-opening class.

You may have seen me: Being loud with my friends.

How I got involved with the Beloit International Film Festival: My friend Alex introduced me to it, and I have been hooked ever since.

What the experience has taught me: I had no prior knowledge about anything cinema, but I have learned so much from how movies are created to how to critique them.

The BIFF movie/event you shouldn't miss: The silent film showcase! It’s at the Eclipse Center on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

What’s on your desert island jukebox? Every Beatles song ever recorded, “When you were young,” The Killers; “White nights,” Oh land; “Doo wop,” Lauryn Hill; “Come close,” Common; “The best is yet to come,” Frank Sinatra; “Sea of Love,”  Phil Phillips…and so much more.

Favorite meal? I love pizza, if anyone ever brought me a heart shaped pizza…*love*

Any advice? Do what you love….and if possible, get paid for it.

What gets you up in the morning? Music and yoga, It’s such a strong yet calming way to start the day.

Heroes: My dad, he’s such a hard worker! I can only hope to be half as brilliant as he is.

What’s your favorite hidden gem here in the area? Bushel & Peck’s. I’m kind of a health freak, and they are a great little organic spot with a great atmosphere.
