Remember: On Monday, the college will celebrate its 10th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Convocation at 4 p.m. in Eaton Chapel. Dr. Brenda Hooper Atlas’77 will serve as the speaker at this event celebrating the life and legacy of the civil rights leader. Beloit students Namoonga Mantina’15 and Calago Hipps’15 will also offer remarks.
Atlas, the head pastor for Bethel A.M.E. Church in Beloit and the former principal of Merrill Elementary School, will give a speech titled "Behold, the Portrait of a Dreamer." Past speakers have included James Perkins, former mayor of Selma, Ala.; Joanne Bland, co-founder of the National Voting Rights Museum and Institute; and Robert L. Belle, Jr., former director of the Federal TRIO Programs within the U.S. Department of Education.
