Museum Monday: Wright receives thousands in grant money

December 16, 2013

Beloit College’s Wright Museum of Art has received a $4,629 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The grant will aid the museum in preservation efforts of its vast print and drawing collection that includes work by such artists as Rembrandt and Picasso.

Following up on a 2010 conservation assessment survey, the Wright Museum plans to purchase exhibition light-monitoring equipment and to re-house more than 10 percent of its core collection, or approximately 200 works. The art will be transferred from substandard acidic mats and overcrowded corrugated board boxes to Solander museum cases with mat board. In addition, the museum will purchase a UV meter to ensure safe conditions for the works.
