Mandela biopic screened Monday night: RSVP required

December 9, 2013

As part of this semester’s grand prize of ONE Campus Challenge, the student organization ONE @ Beloit  has been awarded a private screening of the upcoming film, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, a biopic on Mandela’s life featuring Idris Elba.

ONE at Beloit

ONE is a nonpartisan advocacy organization aimed at addressing poverty and preventable disease in Africa, and Beloit College was one of only 10 schools in the nation to earn a screening of the biopic.

In order to earn the viewing--the film has not yet been released, and is already receiving Oscar buzz--ONE @ Beloit organized two candlelight study sessions, created a presentation about Electrify Africa which they used to raise awareness in multiple classroom visits, and made two deliveries to their Congressional representative, dropping off 90 handwritten letters.

The recently deceased Nelson Mandela spoke eloquently about the parallels between the fight against apartheid and the fight against extreme poverty, making this biographical film a fitting tribute to the efforts of eradicating poverty and disease in Africa.

Beloit College students are invited to attend the free, pre-release screening Monday (Dec. 9) at 7 p.m. at Luxury 10 movie theatres in Beloit, but MUST RSVP to attend.

Click on the link to RSVP; that online reservation serves as your ticket, and ONE members will check you in at the theatre door.
