Second Annual Giving Day a Great Success

The Beloit College community is generous and showed its heart and soul during its second annual Giving Day on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. In just 24 hours, the college raised over $65,000 from more than 450 supporters.

Not only did the gifts far surpass the original goal of $25,000, the event also raised $25,000 more than last year. Beloit is touched by the fantastic response received from supporters and is grateful to be backed by such a strong foundation of alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends. These gifts help make ‪#‎BeloitPossible for the next generation of Turtles, Bucs, and Beloiters.

The unconditional support, enthusiastically offered by our alumni, parents, and friends is a tribute to the character of our community, and the value that we all collectively recognize in the mission we seek to advance. We at Beloit are privileged to have a community so willing to invest in the future of our great institution, and our students. For this, we are grateful,” said Mark Wold’95, Senior Director of Alumni & Parent Relations and Annual Support.

Thank you to all who supported Beloit College’s second annual Giving Day. As College President Scott Bierman often says, it’s “turtles all the way down.”

From the Middle: Staff positions approved, a VP search launched, new office supplies vendor selected

December 4, 2013 at 7:28 am

The college’s senior staff met on a snowy Monday morning on Nov. 25, and again on a cold (but dry) Dec. 2, to get an update on recent admissions activity, approve the justifications and revised job descriptions for two open staff positions, hear about a new vendor for college office supplies, and review a job ad for a new vice president for enrollment services. The job ad will be used as the college attempts  to fill the shoes of Nancy Benedict, who announced this summer that she would be retiring at the end of the 2013-14 academic year.

Details on these last two meetings of the college’s senior staff are included below.

From the Dec. 2 meeting:

Early Decision letters sent, admissions season busy
It’s been a busy time in the admissions office, what with the return of Early Decision applications, as well as Early Action I and II deadlines occurring within the last month, reported Nancy Benedict, vice president for enrollment services.
The binding Early Decision Plan, reintroduced after a 10-year hiatus, bore fruit particularly for the athletic program, Benedict says, as the lionshare of early decision applicants were athletes. The college’s final application deadline is Jan. 15. (By the way, here’s a concise guide to the timing and types of admissions deadlines at Beloit, should you need a refresher.)

At Monday’s meeting, Benedict also reported on persisting issues with the Common Application, and the ways in which the admissions staff has been handling those issues.

Winter Board meeting discussed
At Monday’s meeting, President Scott Bierman also opened the discussion about the winter board meeting, coming up in early February. Senior staff’s report to the board should be available to the campus community the week of January 27.

Language about new accounting policies and forms approved
Also at this week’s meeting, Laurie Stickelmaier shared language for the accounting website that explains and introduces the new policies and procedures that have been approved and added to
www.beloit.edu/accounting in recent weeks. The new language should be appearing on the site in the coming days.

From the Nov. 25th meeting:

Position descriptions, justifications approved for office manager, football coach
Each week, the college’s senior staff reviews new and newly open positions on campus. At the Nov. 25 meeting, the group approved job descriptions for a) Office Manager and Project Coordinator in Communications and Marketing and b) Head Coach of Beloit’s NCAA DIII football program. Searches will be underway shortly to fill each role. Both positions will post soon to
http://www.beloit.edu/humanresources/jobs/staffjobs/.

New office supplies vendor recommended
Based on a review of current and new vendors, the Accounting Office has identified a local office supplies resource (Chippewa Office Supplies) that offers one-day turnaround on orders of everything from paper clips to boxes of paper, and at significant savings to the college. While the move is intended to save the college money overall, Laurie Stickelmaier noted that the accounting office will allow offices and departments to keep the savings they enjoy using this vendor over, say, Staples (a supplier many are using at this time).

More information on this vendor will be distributed to office and departmental contacts in the weeks ahead. In the meantime, you can view offerings at www.chippewaofficesolutions.com.

College preparing to launch search for new vice president
This summer, one of Beloit’s best known and longest serving administrators announced she would be retiring at the end of the 2013-14 academic year. With last week’s meeting, senior staff began to prepare for the retirement of Nancy Benedict, vice president for enrollment services. Working with a national search firm that specializes in recruiting admissions executives, the college is preparing to launch its search in January. To that end, senior staff spent some time on Nov. 25 reviewing and editing a job ad that will be used to describe the college and the opportunity to prospective candidates. Stay tuned for more on the search process.
