Meet Orianna O’Neill’16, of Coward Land

October 9, 2013 at 11:21 pm

Orianna

Name: Orianna O’Neill’16

Hometown: Portland, Ore.

Major/minor: Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Theatre Performance, and Dance.

What brought me to Beloit: Jim Zielinski, my admissions officer really made me want to come to Beloit. He’s the best.

My favorite class so far, and why you should take it: Music and Romanticism: 1800-1900, MUSI 203 with Daniel Barolsky. It was the hardest class I’ve ever taken, and I took it first semester of my freshman year. The class really showed me how college works and what a college student needs to bring to the table. It’s also a fantastic class, and everyone should take a class from Daniel Barolsky in their college career.

You may have seen me: Being a mermaid.

The best book I’ve read at Beloit: Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline. It’s a fantastic dystopian post-apocalyptic novel, filled with ‘80s references and Monty Python jokes. I read it for EDYS 151, and everyone should read it.

Why you should come and see Coward Land: We shoot guns, smoke cigarettes, drink booze, and say some terrible things. It’s gonna be fantastic.

What are you working on? I’m part of the cast of This Is College, a fictional web series written by our very own Lucy Holden. The series tells the story, in somewhat real time, of Julia’s freshman year of college. I play Clarisse, Julia’s best friend, a friendly but annoying girl who dreams of being an actress. Look us up on YouTube! http://www.youtube.com/user/ThisIsCollege13?feature=watch

What do you do in your free time? What do you wish you did in your free time? I spend a lot of time hiding turtles all over campus. Keep an eye out for them! I wish I spent more time playing hide-and-seek with sharks. That would be so awesome.

What gets you up in the morning? Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, a few friends and I have Awkward Breakfast, an event that starts at 9:07 sharp. Extra awkward points if someone brings along a friend no one else knows.

What’s your favorite hidden gem here in the area? Turtle Creek. It’s a  beautiful creek over on the way out to Walmart. Turtle Creek is a fantastic place to take a quick swim, or just have an adventure in the nature that we forget is all around us.
