Second Annual Giving Day a Great Success

The Beloit College community is generous and showed its heart and soul during its second annual Giving Day on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. In just 24 hours, the college raised over $65,000 from more than 450 supporters.

Not only did the gifts far surpass the original goal of $25,000, the event also raised $25,000 more than last year. Beloit is touched by the fantastic response received from supporters and is grateful to be backed by such a strong foundation of alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends. These gifts help make ‪#‎BeloitPossible for the next generation of Turtles, Bucs, and Beloiters.

The unconditional support, enthusiastically offered by our alumni, parents, and friends is a tribute to the character of our community, and the value that we all collectively recognize in the mission we seek to advance. We at Beloit are privileged to have a community so willing to invest in the future of our great institution, and our students. For this, we are grateful,” said Mark Wold’95, Senior Director of Alumni & Parent Relations and Annual Support.

Thank you to all who supported Beloit College’s second annual Giving Day. As College President Scott Bierman often says, it’s “turtles all the way down.”

Sam Abrams 2

Name: Samantha Abrams’17

Hometown: Gaysville, Vt.

What brought me to Beloit: Affordability, basketball, and the people!

My favorite class so far, and why you should take it: Fundamentals of Acting with John Kaufmann. I've never laughed harder on a regular basis in class.

You may have seen me: In the weight room or on the court working out with my team.

The best book I’ve read at Beloit: Hmm...I guess this book called Ceremony I read for English class.

Why you should come and see Coward Land: It's hilarious! We've been working so hard on this show...get ready for fun and to be made a little uncomfortable!

What are you working on? My game!

What’s on your desert island jukebox? The Strokes, Lana Del Rey, Cake, any kind of acoustic guitar music...oh, and any rap song by Nate Brault (and Joshua Evans) a.k.a. TROY & Eli.

Favorite meal? In Commons, my typical meal consists of salad, pizza, and hummus with tortilla chips. Occasionally there will be some potato salad or a slice of turkey with mustard in there.

What can’t you live without? Um, water.

Any advice? Stay true to yourself. Low confidence sucks. You need to believe in yourself...it's the only way to survive.

What do you do in your free time? What do you wish you did in your free time? Free time? Hahahahahahahahahaha.

What gets you up in the morning? The alarm on my iPod. It's a little guitar riff. That or one of my lovely roommates, Mykenzie Larsen and Nora Polaski.

What’s your favorite hidden gem here in the area? Laura Panicali.

Proudest moment? Signing autographs for little kids after starring in a big production of "Beauty & The Beast" as Mrs. Potts this summer.

What are you most looking forward to? Tomorrow, the weekend, something better. My next happy moment.
