Space for innovation: new technology for digital storytelling, updated space

August 11, 2013

Innovation space 1

The Innovation Space, formerly known as MeTS and immediately to the right of the main entrance, is now up and running in Morse Library.

This newly upgraded and redesigned space offers software such as Adobe Design Suite, Final Cut Pro, and iWorks Suite. You'll also find equipment for the creation of digital media projects here. The space was revamped due in large part to faculty and student requests for such a resource.

“The most important changes in this space is what faculty and students will be able to do with the new technology,” explains Jedidiah Rex, manager of instructional technology.

The Innovation Space now contains:

  • 7 audio/video editing stations
  • A group collaboration space
  • 3 flatbed and 2 high-volume document scanners
  • All new computers, dual-booted to run Windows and Mac operating systems.

“The other big thing is that the same software that is installed in the Innovation Space, is also installed in the Learning Studio,” Rex says. “The Learning Studio will provide a place where faculty and students can learn how to use the applications and also be open at other times as a work space as well. The two spaces were designed to complement one another in this way.”

Anyone interested in learning more about and/or using the technology in these spaces can contact Rex (, ext. 2456) or Adam Dinnes (, ext. 2576) who are happy to provide demonstrations and assistance.

Personnel will also be available at the IT support desk in the library Mondays through Thursdays 2 p.m. until 1 a.m.,  Fridays 4 10 p.m,. and Sundays 4 p.m. to 1 a.m.
