Felicia Carlson, a junior from Beloit who consistently broke her own record in both the 100-meter and 200-meter during the 2013 season, has qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse this Thursday (May 23) through Saturday.
Her spot in the 22-athlete field for the 100-meter was secured Sunday; she qualified 11th in the event with a Midwest Conference Championship-winning:12.05 on May 11 at her home track.
Carlson missed qualifying in a second event, the 200-meter, by 6/100th of a second.
Carlson is the first Beloit student-athlete to earn a spot at the championships since Megan Maure qualified in the javelin in 2007.
The 100-meter prelims are set to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex in La Crosse. The finals are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday.
