Meet: Cheyenne Kern’16, one of the stars of Hay Fever

April 21, 2013

Cheyenne Kern 1

Name: Cheyenne Marie Kern’16.

Hometown: Bloomington, Minn.

Major/minor: Theatre and English double major (though haven’t declared yet)..

What brought me to Beloit: I really like the atmosphere and size of Beloit. The study abroad program also interests me greatly since I want to travel everywhere. Plus I got a lot of help with financial aid.

My favorite class so far, and why you should take it: It’s probably a tie between Fundamentals of Acting with John Kaufmann and Dance Kinesiology with Chris Johnson. Fundamentals because it’s so much fun! John makes everyone feel welcome, even if they don’t “do” theatre, and you learn how to say “yes” to offers. Dance Kiensiology because I have learned so much about the human body it’s crazy! Seriously, the only thing holding your arm onto your body is a mass of muscles and ligaments. Also Chris Johnson is a fantastic teacher and will answer all of your questions. Take them both!

You may have seen me: As Janet in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, goofing off with those weirdos in Voodoo Barbie, being a bitch in the Lady from the Sea, or late night Java Joint. That place is awesome.

The best book I’ve read at Beloit: Another tie between The Passion by Jeanette Winterson and Paper Towns by John Green.

What are you working on? Right now I am currently one of the stars of the show Hay Fever. It’s a British comedy by Noel Coward involving a ridiculous family and sexual hilarity. I’m also in a band called Opus Dog. We will probably have some shows, we’ve already had three.

What’s on your desert island jukebox? ’70s and ’80s rock. Basically, if you saw the ’80s hairband at Sigma Chi, that was my childhood in music form. Add in some Copeland, One Direct (yeah I said it, they rock), and the soundtrack from the Lord of the Rings and I’m good.

Who are your top-three fantasy dinner party guests? Gandalf the Grey, Lord Voldemort, and Yoda. (Rule #1: no killing.)

What’s your karaoke standard? “Open Arms” by Journey

What are you most looking forward to? Spending this summer working at my awesome camp with my sister and some of my best friends! Mostly for the sun.
