Yesterday was a big day for the Buccaneer softball team, pitcher Jennifer Zucker in particular.
Zucker threw a no-hitter against Grinnell and struck out 17 overall to set a new Beloit single-season strikeout mark with 141, as the Bucs won two on the road in the Midwest Conference's Softball Classic in Peoria, Ill. Zucker's strikeout total broke the record set by Hall of Honor member Jamie Cassette, who had 133 strikeouts in 1996.
The no-hitter is just the fourth in Buccaneer Softball history, the first since Katy Nilson and Stacy Salomone combined to shut down Carroll on April 4, 2007.
And you know what? Zucker's got time to grow that total. Softball's season's not even over yet. The Bucs will host a double header against Lawrence next Saturday. For more on this weekend's action visit the softball page.
