Second Annual Giving Day a Great Success

The Beloit College community is generous and showed its heart and soul during its second annual Giving Day on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. In just 24 hours, the college raised over $65,000 from more than 450 supporters.

Not only did the gifts far surpass the original goal of $25,000, the event also raised $25,000 more than last year. Beloit is touched by the fantastic response received from supporters and is grateful to be backed by such a strong foundation of alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends. These gifts help make ‪#‎BeloitPossible for the next generation of Turtles, Bucs, and Beloiters.

The unconditional support, enthusiastically offered by our alumni, parents, and friends is a tribute to the character of our community, and the value that we all collectively recognize in the mission we seek to advance. We at Beloit are privileged to have a community so willing to invest in the future of our great institution, and our students. For this, we are grateful,” said Mark Wold’95, Senior Director of Alumni & Parent Relations and Annual Support.

Thank you to all who supported Beloit College’s second annual Giving Day. As College President Scott Bierman often says, it’s “turtles all the way down.”

Nominate an outstanding staff person for recognition

April 4, 2013 at 5:25 pm

Is there a member of the hourly or administrative staff at the college you'd like to see recognized for efforts, care, and attitude that goes above and beyond the job description? If so, then please nominate him or her for the Bill “the Food Dude” Behling Prize. Nominations must be submitted to Bill Behling Prize Committee by Tuesday, April 16 in order to be considered. (Submit your nomination online by using the link at the bottom of this post.)

Bill Behling directed Beloit’s campus food services for more than 20 years, overseeing operations in Commons, D.K.’s Snack Bar, the Java Joint, and the C-Haus, and catering events and summer conferences. “The Food Dude,” an endearing title bestowed upon Bill by the students, went beyond the call of duty by spreading his good humor and good will to the campus community. His contributions to everyday campus life consisted of things like tossing candy bars to those in Commons; working while in costume; and, for students who were far from home, hosting a campus Thanksgiving dinner followed by a night out at the movies. Bill was once quoted as saying, “Our philosophy here is that we serve a little bit of food and a whole lot of relationships,” and it is in that spirit in which the Bill Behling Prize shall be awarded.

Nominees must be a current member of the administrative or hourly staff and demonstrate the spirit exemplified by Bill Behling: forging positive, enriching and empowering relationships with students, encouraging them to grow, learn and succeed in the Beloit environment and beyond.

The recipient will be announced prior to commencement. The prize will be awarded during the annual staff recognition ceremony on May 15, during which the recipient will receive a cash award, framed citation, and his or her name will be added to the engraved plaque honoring Bill on display in Commons.

To nominate someone, click on the link below and submit his or her name and a paragraph or two explaining why the nominee is deserving of the award. Please include examples of what the individual has done by word or deed to meet the spirit of the prize as described above.
