Meet Karly Clippinger’15; rocks rate high with this artist/geologist

March 19, 2013

Karly Clippinger

Name: Karly Clippinger’15

Hometown: Wales, Wis.

Major: Environmental geology.

Sports/positions: Cross country, track and field (hurdles and high jump).

How would you describe your art, and what are you showing in the Artletics show? I think my art is generally realistic. I really enjoy clean lines and layering with my medium.  Oil pastels are my favorite, but I left them at home so I will be showing a couple of watercolor paintings and a colored pencil drawing.

What are a few of your favorite things? Honestly rocks rank pretty high, but I’d also have to say a good book, anything chocolate, and runner’s high.

What’s on your desert island jukebox? Anything by Good Old War, Of Monsters and Men, Release the Sunbird, Glen Hansard, or Iron & Wine.

What do you do in your free time? Well what little free time I have I spend either running, painting, reading or organizing.

If you could be reincarnated, what person/thing would you like to be? A sea turtle. Or a bird…maybe a flamingo.

What gets you up in the morning? My internal alarm clock, it often wakes me up before I would like it to.

What’s your favorite hidden gem here in the area? There are all sorts of great places to run once you find them.

Proudest moment? Setting the 60-meter high hurdle record last year.

What are you most looking forward to? Anything to do with travel. I’m really excited to go on the geology department field excursions this summer. We’ll be spending a couple of weeks in Utah, South Dakota and Wyoming.
