Second Annual Giving Day a Great Success

The Beloit College community is generous and showed its heart and soul during its second annual Giving Day on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. In just 24 hours, the college raised over $65,000 from more than 450 supporters.

Not only did the gifts far surpass the original goal of $25,000, the event also raised $25,000 more than last year. Beloit is touched by the fantastic response received from supporters and is grateful to be backed by such a strong foundation of alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends. These gifts help make ‪#‎BeloitPossible for the next generation of Turtles, Bucs, and Beloiters.

The unconditional support, enthusiastically offered by our alumni, parents, and friends is a tribute to the character of our community, and the value that we all collectively recognize in the mission we seek to advance. We at Beloit are privileged to have a community so willing to invest in the future of our great institution, and our students. For this, we are grateful,” said Mark Wold’95, Senior Director of Alumni & Parent Relations and Annual Support.

Thank you to all who supported Beloit College’s second annual Giving Day. As College President Scott Bierman often says, it’s “turtles all the way down.”

“Want action? Excitement? Then plan to go to one of #BeloitCollege FIRST #menslacrosse games!” tweeted @markcjackson1.

The men’s home opener is set for Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m. against DePauw University. Before then they will play a scrimmage game this Saturday (Feb. 9) against Kenyon College, followed by five away games.

"We have a number of scrimmage opportunities in the next two weeks against good competition—we're hoping that they will prepare us for our game schedule,” says Bob Dignazio, the men’s head coach. “Our team has worked hard this fall and preseason, and we still have work to do before our first game. The most important aspect so far has been beginning to establish the culture of the program for this season and the future."

The first game of the season for the women’s team happens to be at home on Friday, March 1 against Alma College. They play two more home games on Wednesday, March 13 and Sunday, March 17 against Loras College and Fontbonne College, respectively.

“Each day I continue to be impressed by the dedication to excellence this young team emulates,” says Women’s Head Coach Meredith Newman. “The foundation for our future is built each minute spent in practice as they push each other outside of their comfort zones, all the while relying on the strength of our team support system.

We practice how we aim to play, and this team gets it. The excitement and anticipation for our competitive season is palpable, fueling the fire as we continually bring our focus back into the moment and take care of the little things now. Moment by moment we are laying the groundwork and writing the history of Beloit Women's Lacrosse, creating traditions that will last for years to come.”
