Meet Calago Hipps’15, appearing in performance next week

January 16, 2013

Calago Hipps

Name: Calago Hipps’15.

Major/minor/: Double major in media studies and performance.

Hometown: Avon Park, Fla.

You may have seen me: As Alan Reliegh in God Of Carnage.

Can you tell us a little bit about the spoken word event taking place next Wednesday, Jan. 23? The performance is a hybrid actually. The show itself will be a performance that I adapted from MLK's Letters from a Birmingham Jail. These letters were written during Dr. King’s incarceration and cover a range of topics. The piece will be broken up and the spoken word pieces will set up each different topic that Dr. King covers in the letters. (Lessons and Letters from a Birmingham Jail, a poetry and spoken-word event, will take place Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. in Moore Lounge of Pearsons Hall.)

Favorite meal? Anything Italian is my favorite meal.

Any advice? Knowledge is power and unlike other means of power we come across in life, knowledge is something you can seek on your own.

Beatles or Stones? Neither. I'm a big fan of The Who however.
