Name/year of graduation: Alice Mitchell’13
Hometown/residence: Northbrook, Ill.
Major: History, women’s and gender studies.
You may have seen me: At Alliance, Alpha Sigma Tau, the Beloit College Archives, or creeping on everyone in the 815 parking lot from my desk.
What are a few of your favorite things? Beloit, cats, squirrels, lemonade, 70-degree weather, rainy weather, the smell of rain, my family and friends, my frog, forests, traveling, young adult literature, vegetarian bacon…those are only a few.
Any advice? I’m going to shamelessly steal from ‘Life is Good’ when I say do what you love and love what you do. As long as you’re happy with yourself and where you are, it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks or whether or not you match up to their standards. In addition to that, realizing your own limitations and not blaming yourself for having them. We are all human, and we all have points where it becomes too difficult to handle on our own.
What do you do in your free time? I spend a lot of time playing around on the Internet, as college students are prone to do, but I also enjoy watching my friends play horror video games at Alliance and watching period dramas with the sisters at AST.
What gets you up in the morning? My iPod music and the threat of it getting louder, the thought of what my future will be like, and what I could potentially miss out on by staying in bed.
Who are your heroes? My parents, my siblings, my Granny, Rachel “Smitty” Smith’13, Emerson Fuller’12, and Erin Tuffy’12. They are accompanied by Tamora Pierce and Beloit Professor Linda Sturtz.
Proudest moment? The most recent moment when I felt really proud was receiving a text from my wonderful little sister, informing me that she DM’d her first Dungeons and Dragons game at the age of 13. Watching her and my younger brother grow up have been the absolute best experiences of my life.
