Meet Phoebe Sherman’14, who would like to be reincarnated as Beyonce

April 23, 2012

Phoebe 1

Name/year of graduation: Phoebe Sherman’14

Hometown/residence: Port Washington, Long Island, New York.

Major: Anthropology.

You may have seen me: Porch-sitting at Theta Pi Gamma, dancing in December Dance Workshops and Chelonia, or in a Voodoo Barbie show!

What are a few of your favorite things? Cheddar cheese, theatre, hedgehogs, dance parties, swimming in the ocean, Vermont, porch-sitting, wool socks, Theta Pi Gamma, bagels with cream cheese and lox, Central Park, hiking, fresh fruit, cozy sweaters, and Beloit!
What three items go in your desert island backpack? Chocolate chip cookie dough, all of my friends and family, and a puppy.

What’s on your desert island jukebox? It would have to have a wide variety so that I wouldn't get bored on my island. Lots of folk for sure. And every Ingrid Michaelson song ever. Also, there would be a large musical theatre selection and some musicians that I don't know yet since it's always great to discover new music!
Any do-over requests to lodge with the universe? Explain. Not really. I like to believe that things happen for a reason and everything works itself out in the end. Although it would be great to do-over the night Commons had a smoothie bar. I really enjoyed that.
Favorite meal? Either macaroni and cheese or a breakfast burrito with eggs, potato, cheese, tomatoes, bacon, peppers, and onions.

What can’t you live without?  Definitely my friends. They really do keep me sane.

Any advice? It's what you make it.

What do you do in your free time? If the weather is nice, chances are I'll be porch- sitting at Theta.

If you could be reincarnated, what person/thing would you like to be? Beyonce.

Who are your top-three fantasy dinner party guests? Stephen Sondheim, Michelle Obama, and Jim Henson (but only if he brings Miss Piggy).

What gets you up in the morning? That it might be a beautiful, warm, spring day!

Who are your heroes? All of the strong women in my life.

Which talent would you most like to have? To be able to sing like a Broadway belter!

Beatles or Stones? Beatles.

What’s your favorite hidden gem here in the area? Short Stack Pancake House! It's delicious and the people who work there are wonderful.

What’s the number one thing on your bucket list? I want to travel to every continent.

Proudest moment? I was really proud of myself after my first Voodoo Barbie show last fall. I was terrified for my first show but afterward, it felt really great.

If you were auditioning for American Idol, what song would you sing? “Chain of Fools” by Aretha Franklin! Nobody can sing like Aretha, but it's so fun to just let go and belt it out.

What are you most looking forward to? When it gets really warm again and stays that way.
