In the Stacks: 10,000 new ebooks and 2,700-plus additional journal titles

January 17, 2012

Beloit College Library has licensed the complete Springer journal collection and acquired Springer’s 2011 ebook catalog. Visit SpringerLink (an integrated full-text database for journals, books, protocols, eReferences, and book series) to browse or search all of the publisher’s content. Resources made available through our Wisconsin Library Consortia purchase are marked by a green box, and our agreement provides access to the 2,711 journal titles produced by Springer for the publication period 1997-present. Use the FindIt button in journal and citation databases to connect to Springer and other full-text article content made available through Beloit College subscriptions.

Digital editions of Springer’s entire 2011 book catalog are also available, with more than 6,000 books available online from start to finish. Book contents are broken into chapters and other logical segments to speed the download process, and books can also be downloaded in pdf form. Springer ebook content covered by the library’s license will soon be available for purchase as paper-bound, black and white, personal use re-prints for a flat $24.95 fee. Orders and payment are managed directly through SpringerLink using their MyCopy program.

Cover to cover access is limited to the 2011 publication year, but the remainder of the publisher catalog and their protocols collection are searchable and provide limited previews of the content. For titles not included in Beloit’s electronic collection, search WorldCat to find a local copy or request the title via Inter Library Loan.

Beloit College’s one year old ebrary electronic book collection

subscription, already very popular with students and faculty, provides access to over 70,000 titles. More than 4,000 titles were added at the end of 2011 and the service has expanded to allow download of individual chapters or entire ebooks. Instructions for download to computer, iPad, Kindle, and other devices are available here
