Museum Mondays: Wright museum deemed “impressive”

October 9, 2011

Last week, Jill Hartz, executive director of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon and president of the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries, spent two days on campus. She was assessing the Wright Museum’s capacity for community engagement.

Jill’s initial response?  “Wow. I am impressed with all you are doing with such a small staff and budget,” she said. This is the third Museum Assessment Program that the Wright Museum has completed, and is another step as the Wright prepares itself for accreditation by the American Association of Museums. Staff at the Wright Museum spent this past spring and summer preparing for this assessment, sending students into the city to gauge community members’ perceptions about the Wright Museum.  Students and staff will continue to improve the museum’s programming and will be implementing changes based on some of the recommendations in the review.

Below, community members participate in a hands-on museum activity with Ann Bausum ’79.
