October 6, 2011

KF'13Name: Karla Figueroa’13
Hometown/residence: Memphis, Tenn./Apatzingan, Mexico
Major: Economics and management and international relations
You may have seen me: Studying Chinese flashcards while running on the treadmill
What are a few of your favorite things? Quotes, Regina Spektor's singing in Russian, hot sauce, my sisters, the word "swag," Sunday night dinners with friends,  traveling, and color-coded planners.
Any do-over requests to lodge with the universe? Explain. I was in Delhi, India, last January and I planned on going to the Taj Mahal a few days before returning to the States. However, I got really sick and put off my trip until my second to last day in India. My train ended up arriving to the Taj Mahal right when the gates were closing, so I missed my chance to see it. I hope to make it to the Taj Mahal next time I'm in India.
What do you do in your free time? Langston Hughes sums it up: "Well, I like to eat, sleep, drink, and be in love.  I like to work, read, learn, and understand life. " (I told you I like quotes....)
Who are your top-three fantasy dinner party guests? Such a hard question! If I had more time to think, I would probably change my mind, but the first three that come to mind are Fyodor Dostoevsky, MLK Jr., and Mao Zedong.
What gets you up in the morning? My.... wait for it..... five! alarms.
Which talent would you most like to have? I really wish I could play the piano with one hand and simultaneously beat a drum. I've seen a few people do it, but it's extremely complicated.
If you were auditioning for American Idol, what song would you sing? "Tik Tok" by Kesha. It's well-received when I'm abroad and people request that I "play a song Americans listen to." The crazy dance moves that accompany it are also entertaining.
What are you most looking forward to? Halloween. Beloit students come up with the most creative costumes.
