Staff Council is taking a page from the faculty playbook and hosting a symposium day on Wednesday, May 18. The day-long Summer Symposium is a part of a larger effort to help the college's employees learn more about—and commune with—other divisions across campus.
"It's certainly a professional development effort," says Lori Rhead, director of human resources. "Employees will learn what their colleagues are up to, and how some of their successes might translate campus wide. But it's also about fun—we expect it to be a community-building day as well."
While the symposium’s planning committee is still accepting proposals from across campus, the day's schedule is already firming up. The day will begin with a pot-luck breakfast and lunch will be held in a tent outside Pearsons (as a part of the annual staff recognition luncheon). In between the morning coffee and an end-of-day social there will be sessions explaining the new curriculum and a Beloit College "brand" presentation, among many other interactive sessions. Rumor has it there may even be a song or two on the docket.
All Beloit staff will dress down for the day and be encouraged to attend sessions all day long while on the clock. RSVPs to the symposium and the staff recognition luncheon will be circulating soon. In the meantime, if you've got a proposal to pitch, email it to Lori Rhead at email@example.com. Deadline: MONDAY.
