April 21, 2011

After 10 days without eating, Zainab al-Khawaja’07 has ended her hunger strike, which she began after her father, husband, and brother-in-law were arrested by Bahraini forces at the family’s home. Her father is a noted human-rights activist in Bahrain.

The family was finally told of their loved ones’ whereabouts Wednesday morning, and al-Khawaja—who has a young child—ended her hunger strike shortly thereafter.

Supporters of al-Khawaja on campus are planning to fast tomorrow (Friday, April 22) in a show of support; the fast will end with a vigil at 5:30 p.m. on Chapin Quad.
