Chinese AIDS advocate, law expert on campus Saturday

February 24, 2011

Xu Haibo of the Beijing-based NGO Dongjen Center for Human Rights Education and Action will be on campus to meet and talk with students about his work in the fields of AIDS advocacy and public interest law Saturday (Feb. 26).

Students may meet with Xu at the following times, depending on their Chinese language skills:

  • 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in WAC South Lounge – for students who are native speakers of Chinese or who have excellent skills in the language.
  • 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the WAC South Lounge – for students who do not speak Chinese or who are less advanced with their study of the language.

Since beginning his work at the Dongjen Center in 2007, Xu has been instrumental in establishing China’s first legal aid center for people with HIV/AIDS. The mission of the center is to defend the rights of people living with AIDS and promote their access to justice, and to establish a broad network of relationships with domestic and international AIDS lawyers, experts, NGOs, and people with HIV/AIDS.
