Dissent and protest

October 20, 2010

The Beloit College Political Science Department will host guest lecturer and retired Army Colonel Ann Wright, who will present “Dissent and Protest in American Politics” on tonight (Wednesday) at 7:30 p.m. in Richardson Auditorium, in Morse-Ingersoll Hall.

Wright is co-author of the book Dissent: Voices of Conscience, which tells the stories of government insiders and active-duty military personnel who, in the period leading up to the Iraq war, leaked documents, spoke out, resigned, or refused to deploy in protest of government actions they felt were illegal. Wright was also awarded the State Department's Award for Heroism for her actions during the evacuation of 2,500 people from the civil war in Sierra Leone. She has worked overseas in Afghanistan, Mongolia, Somalia, Kyrgyzstan, Grenada, Micronesia, and Nicaragua.
