Second Annual Giving Day a Great Success

The Beloit College community is generous and showed its heart and soul during its second annual Giving Day on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. In just 24 hours, the college raised over $65,000 from more than 450 supporters.

Not only did the gifts far surpass the original goal of $25,000, the event also raised $25,000 more than last year. Beloit is touched by the fantastic response received from supporters and is grateful to be backed by such a strong foundation of alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends. These gifts help make ‪#‎BeloitPossible for the next generation of Turtles, Bucs, and Beloiters.

The unconditional support, enthusiastically offered by our alumni, parents, and friends is a tribute to the character of our community, and the value that we all collectively recognize in the mission we seek to advance. We at Beloit are privileged to have a community so willing to invest in the future of our great institution, and our students. For this, we are grateful,” said Mark Wold’95, Senior Director of Alumni & Parent Relations and Annual Support.

Thank you to all who supported Beloit College’s second annual Giving Day. As College President Scott Bierman often says, it’s “turtles all the way down.”

MEET: Josh Hall

Assistant Professor of Economics Josh Hall has been all over the place lately (editing a new book, writing editorials, and tomorrow being interviewed by local radio station WCLO) and now, of course, he's on the Terrarium:

Joshua HallName: Josh Hall.
Occupation: Assistant Professor of Economics.
Hometown/residence: Cleveland/Beloit.
Hobbies: I used to play vintage base ball (www.vbba.org) for the Ohio Village Muffins (http://ohsweb.ohiohistory.org/places/c11/c11-01.shtml) , but moving to Beloit and the demands of family life and work have eliminated all of my hobbies but reading and writing about economics. I’m fortunate that one of my favorite hobbies is my job!
What’s on your desert island jukebox? Pearl Jam, Tha Alkaholiks, David Allan Coe, Hank Williams Jr., The Coup, Johnny Cash, Metallica, and the soundtrack to “Everyone Says I Love You.”
Favorite meal? Anything with bacon.
What can’t you live without? My family. They were gone for a month this summer helping after the birth of our first nephew and it was an awful time for me.
What do you do in your free time? As an economist, I know there is no such thing as “free time”. ;) Seriously though, when not at work I like to read with my kids and watch the occasional Simpsons or Daria on DVD..
Who are your top-three fantasy dinner party guests? Milton Friedman, F.A. Hayek, and Adam Smith.
What gets you up in the morning? Whatever puzzle I’m working on at the time and the need to put my thoughts on that puzzle down on paper.
Which talent would you most like to have/Name a talent you have? I would like to be able to pick up languages easily.
If you were auditioning for American Idol, what song would you sing? "Uneasy Rider" by the Charlie Daniels Band. (I can’t sing).
