Sen. Durbin, Congresswoman Baldwin on campus FRIDAY

October 5, 2010

US Senator Dick Durbin on campus Friday to stump for Feingold

U.S. Senator and assistant majority leader Dick Durbin (D-IL) will be on campus Friday to advocate for early voting - and stump for fellow Democrat, incumbent U.S. Senate candidate Russ Feingold (D-WI) - at 2 p.m. in Richardson Hall in MI. Our local Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D), is also expected to be in attendance.

The event is free and open to the campus community and public at large. The college regularly hosts candidates for political offices for appearances of this sort as a service to the campus and local community. This time around, it was a Beloit connection that instigated the event. The visit was arranged by Beloit alumnus Mark Spreitzer'09, who is working for the Feingold office.

An invitation to host a similar event on campus has been extended to Feingold's opponent in the November election, Republican Ron Johnson.

Also on the campaign front: Two Beloit students recently organized an on-campus debate between the two candidates vying for the 45th District seat in the state assembly (a seat vacated by Chuck Benedict, husband of our own Nancy Benedict, vice president for enrollment services). Details are still coming together, but the event is planned for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21. Both Amy Loudenbeck (R) and Roger Anclam (D) are expected to attend.
