08_31_Fran_Abbate_mugName: Francesca Abbate
Occupation: Assistant Professor of English
Hometown/residence: Beloit! (and Milwaukee in the summer) (and Chicago, Lakeview East, where my parents live)
What three items go in your desert island backpack? My cats, my Riverside Shakespeare, and good coffee.
What gets you up in the morning? My cats, Poetry Daily, and good coffee.
Who are your top-three fantasy dinner party guests? I'd be looking for engaging, down-to-earth literary companions. So: Chaucer, Angela Carter (the late, great British novelist), and poet Federico Garcia Lorca, because he's such a mystery to me. Or Oscar Wilde, if Lorca turned me down.
What’s your favorite hidden gem here in the area? RIP Gun Club. (It was a little hard to find, does that count?) Lately, Chef's Corner in Williams Bay. Beatles or Stones? Umm...Louis Armstrong? My college friends would say I'd choose Stones, no question. But that was a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away--i.e., Beloit in the late '80s.
