AROUND TOWN: Tango and blues on tap tonight

August 30, 2010

Looking for something to do off-campus tonight? The city offers several options, all within walking distance.

Those wishing to trip the light fantastic can dance the night away at Dancin' at Harry's Place, at 7 p.m. in Riverside Park. (Walking directions: take Church Street north to White; take a left and head west on White, and at the intersection of White and Pleasant/Riverside you should see Riverside Park.)  Learn a different dance each week at 7 p.m. (lessons are free!) and  then enjoy open dancing at 8 p.m. This week's lesson will be on tango, instructed by Darrah and Peggy Chavey. Call 608-365-4838 for more information.

Take in a blues jam every Monday at  7 p.m. at Suds O'Hanahan's, featuring Dave Potter and the Alley Kings. Suds O'Hanahan's is Beloit's favorite Irish-style pub; to reach Suds from campus, take the path down the hill behind the Smith building until it turns into the Pleasant Street sidewalk; keep heading south, taking a right onto E. Grand Ave. Suds will be on the right side of the street.
