Have you ever wondered what the ultimate dorm room at Beloit would look like?
That is the topic explored by the members of Museum Club (pictured above) in their newly installed exhibit Turtle Crib,z opening tonight (March 19) in Hales Gallery. The idea for the exhibit was inspired in part by the popular MTV series Cribs and a statement by a club member wondering if “personal collections couldn’t be an exhibit of the person themselves.”
Several members have volunteered to bring in personal collections, artifacts, and keepsakes that they display prominently in their rooms to build what they imagine to be the ultimate Beloit College dorm. Each member involved has also written a haiku to communicate a feeling or sentiment for his or her objects in lieu of traditional museum labels. (Below, two club members work on installing the show.)
Turtle Cribz will begin showing tonight, Monday, March 19, with an opening reception taking place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Hales Gallery on the first floor of Pearsons Hall. The exhibit will be on display daily through Saturday, March 24.
Museum Club meets every Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Java Joint. Join their B-Link page to stay updated with their events.
