Meet Ellie Daniels’13, a repurposeful artist

March 5, 2013 at 2:28 pm

Name: Ellie Daniels’13

Hometown/residence: Portland, Ore.

Major: Environmental biology, studio art.

Sport/position: Lacrosse defensive midfielder.

How would you describe your art, and what are you showing in the upcoming Artletics show? I create art from recycled, scrapper, or otherwise found materials. Repurposed objects can transcend their constraints as trash. My recent work with cigarettes is a self-reflection of how smoking has been a constant part of my life since I was very young. Even though I am not a smoker myself, some of the people I am closest to are, or are greatly affected by smoking in general.

What’s on your desert island jukebox? Baby’s On Fire by Die Antwoord and Wonderful Life by Seed.

Favorite meal? Thanksgiving at the Chiquoines’s house, or home-cooked Chinese food

What can’t you live without? My family, friends, dog, and planner. Food is pretty good too.

What do you do in your free time? Find new places to eat, go to sporting events, or hike when the weather is nice enough.

What gets you up in the morning? Knowing there are grapefruits in commons.

What’s your favorite hidden gem here in the area? The corn puppies at the Turtle Tap. Ice Hogs games in Rockford are also great.

Proudest moment? Becoming a captain of the women’s LAX team has been a very exciting part of my life this year.

If you were auditioning for American Idol, what song would you sing? The alphabet.
