As part of this semester’s grand prize of ONE Campus Challenge, ONE @ Beloit  has been awarded a private screening of the upcoming film, “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” a biopic on Mandela’s life featuring Idris Elba.

ONE is an advocacy organization aimed at addressing poverty and preventable disease in Africa.

Nelson Mandela spoke eloquently about the parallels between the fight against apartheid and the fight against extreme poverty. Each time I revisit his words I am reinvigorated to help carry on Mandela’s quest for justice:

“Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings…Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. YOU can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.”
