Buccaneers Suffer Tough OT Loss in MWC Opener

Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Soccer team opened Midwest Conference play on Wednesday at the Strong Complex Soccer Field, suffering a tough 3-2 loss in overtime to Carroll University.

Simone Harstead scored the lone goal of the opening 45 minutes when she won a battle in front of the Carroll net to put the Bucs up at 36:34.  Beloit made the lead 2-0 at 46:46 of the second half when Emily Ebner hit the back of the net off an assist from Kirsten Takaki.

The Pioneers cut the lead in half at the 71:56 mark and then evened it up with a penalty-kick goal at 77:19 to force extra time.  CU got the game-winner 2:02 into overtime to end it.

Alex Spirov made 17 saves in goal for Beloit, who were out-shot 28-9.  Carroll also had the advantage in corner kicks at 17-1.

The Bucs remain in Conference play for their next three matches, all on the road, starting Saturday at Grinnell College.  Kickoff is at 11:00 a.m.
